In general I strongly prefer not to share sleeping accomodation.
I find that I sleep badly which makes me (and my roommate) grumpy.
Sleeping in a dormitory is something I would do in case of war or
natural disaster, not something I will choose to do.
If I can't find a way to attend Debconf without either sharing,
travelling huge distances, or staying in a tent, I will have to
reconsider whether I will be attending.
In general DC has normally been in places where if you preferred to
avoid the sponsored accomodation you could simply take a room in a
nearby hotel. That's what I did in Helsinki, Caceres and Edinburgh.
The problem here isn't so much that the sponsored accomodation is poor
(although I don't have much of an opinion about that). The problem is
the lack of practical alternatives for those who want something
approximating a hotel room and are willing and expecting to pay for
it.
