Yes, beds are nicer. Much nicer. A luxurious resort like Porto Alegre's
is much much nicer.
But after surviving Debconf@Oslo, sleeping on the floor in a big gym
with 50 other (male) hackers (some of which snored badly), and somewhat
too much light (very late sunset up there) I can testify that the rest
of the experience makes up for it, and you get used to sleeping on the
floor after a couple of days. I am probably more prone to whining and
complaining that the average, and love to sleep in my own bed as much as
anyone else, and I had absolutely no complaints about lodging at Oslo.
(Tip: air mattresses make a great difference).
So people, relax, you'll get tired, and you'll get sleep nomatter where.
You'll also love the experience. Sharing more than code with fellow
Debian Developers, users and zealots alike, is just so incredibly cool
that you will not miss your bed, although you will love to be back
inside it by the time you get back home :)
And there's always the chance to get a cheap room somewhere else, but I
fear not any cheaper than free :)
So think positive about sleeping on the floor. Just be true good hackers
and solve the "problem" creatively.
