Problems burning DVD+R on Sony DRU-120A
Hi all,
I am having problems burning DVD+Rs on my Sony DRU-120A (firmware rev.
1.26). I am running a 2.4.21 kernel, my DVD+RW drive is in ide-scsi
'mode' and I have disabled DMA on IDE drives (as it was giving me greif
about being *really* short on DMA buffers and the DVD+RW is my only IDE
device anyway - all my disks are SCSI).
The short story is that I can not burn DVD+Rs since the drive times out
then hangs. I have gotten it to work a few times on ~2Gb images, but on
larger images I have no luck. I upgraded from kernel 2.4.19 to 2.4.21
and disabled DMA to try and get around the problems, but to no avail.
The detailed symptoms are as follows:
* I use mkisofs to make an image (mkisofs -r -V "$TITLE" -l -L -J -T
-o $TEMP_DIR/image.$$ $DATA)
* The image is created fine...
* I then use growisofs to write the image onto the media (growisofs -Z
${DEV}=${TEMP_DIR}/image.$$)
* I get the following on the console
99.51% done, estimate finish Tue Aug 19 21:23:05 2003
99.77% done, estimate finish Tue Aug 19 21:23:05 2003

After this the drive is completely unresponsive until I reboot the
machine (I can not even manually eject). It is unlikely to be a
hardware problem since I have two machines that are clones (I work in a
molecular biology lab after all...) and both exhibit similar problems.
Any help would be most appreciated!
