from http://r300.sourceforge.net/ it looks like if your are skilled enough
to build the driver fro source maybe using xorg too you can use recent ati
cards with 3d without the ati driver.

Else as far as i know the semi official linux forum for the ati provided
driver is:

Option "VideoOverlay" "on" ? (those are ati specific extension to the
configuration)

hardware overlay , though i limit overlay to one head they don't tell if
it limits it to one window too ...
