I don't think so, but the radeonfb in 2.4.17 is rather old AFAIK. There
have been big updates since, which could make a difference. If you don't
want to try the current 2.4.18 prerelease, you could try backporting the
radeonfb changes to 2.4.17. Shouldn't be hard.

Unlikely. I've tortured my PowerBook the same way many times and it's
still alive. :)
