You don't specify which 'nv' card ^^ however I have an original Nvidia

Not that this is the answer, but I am running Sid here, X 4.0.2 libc
2.2.1, Nvidia card as noted above, stock X drivers 2.2.19pre kernel, and
no problems with X here. Are you guys maybe trying to get the Nvidia
drivers installed, using 2.4 kernels? DRI patches?
