Right, re-reading my reply, I think it came across... well, not as
intended. That *is* how I normally interpret such behavior, but it
wasn't intended to be a put down as much as it was to illustrate that we
were misinterpreting each other. I'm sure that my behavior seems
extremely aggressive to her and others, but it doesn't to me and it
could be that we've just reached an impasse where it will be very
difficult to communicate on this subject because our styles are so
dramatically different.

In this case, it seems like Clytie thinks she's answering me and I think
she's not and neither of us are getting what we're aiming for, so it's
probably better to just drop it.

Well, I was trying to elaborate on how things are done in my culture as
well, though perhaps clumsily. I find it as difficult to be indirect as
she does to be direct. It's probably inflexible to expect either of us
to change.

Anyway, as a minor clarification (because I have received a lot of
off-list flak about this):

Clytie has done a great deal for DW in terms of translation efforts, and
that has never gone unappreciated by me. I don't actually hold any ill
will towards her because of this discussion and kind of assumed
everything would be cool despite it all.
