No that is not desired. I have a config that works and is defined in simple
config files - with IP addresses that do not change. I have no need for the
dynamic stuff that NM does and will just make the config more complicated for
me to manage as well as having a continually running process that just consumes
resources for no purpose.
NM seems to have been designed for laptops which move around and so need to
acquire different addresses via DHCP (which always worked well for me) - I do
run it on my laptop, here I am talking about my desktop.
So: I suspect that I will need to just put up with a 3 minute delay on login.
