Xpost - Problems with morse (2.5-1): edge and delay

[Posted on debian-hams but no replies over there]

Hi, I don't know how to explain this and maybe you can tell me how to record a sample.

My system:

$ uname -a
Linux e130 4.19.0-14-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.171-2 (2021-01-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux

I had been using morse (morse-classic) for a while without any issues but lately the sound coming from morse has ( I hope I'm using the right words) a sharp edge and a small, but fastidious delay. For example I launch it as:

$ morse -rC "kjwsotf" -f `echo $RANDOM % 400 + 500 | bc` -eTBq -w 15 -F 20 -n 19 -R 5

The "-f `echo $RANDOM % 400 + 500 | bc`" randomises the frequency of the note.

I have purged and reinstalled both alsa and pulseaudio, created a new user, etc, to no avail.

The only thing that works is:

- remove the "-f" switch, and
- use morseALSA instead of morse, like this:

$ morseALSA -rC "kjwsotf"  -eTBq -w 15 -F 20 -n 19 -R 5

Ao, it looks like there is a problem with pulseaudio and one with the randomised frequency. This is the only application that is giving me problems.

Any input will be appreciated.
