Some of this, *not all*, but some of this I found to be about not
having the right repository in my /etc/apt/sources.list.. Other
package managers have their own place where you would address the
same..
It's that "held back" part that *finally* clued me in at some point.
As soon as I do a quick tweak on that /etc/apt/sources.list by adding
the additional necessary repository and THEN *apt-get update*, I don't
see the message anymore.
Because of what I'm doing here, basically learning by (usually
accidentally) destroying then fixing, I've had the opportunity to
therefore "harmlessly" also try *dpkg -i --force-depends
[package-name]. SEEMS LIKE it was one of those "don't try this at
home, kids", last resort kinds of deal. It actually fixed something
for me in a system I eventually killed off permanently some other way
instead...
