An advantage of cu is that it integrates perfectly with uucp. If you have uucp installed, configured and running then it might be using the serial line at any random time. Using cu it will use the configuration from uucp and semaphore with it so that there aren't any collisions with the serial port line. The cu program is also useful on its own too. Bob
