Netgear Series N Router as Access Point Poisons our LAN.

I think that what is happening is that the router is
still trying to route. We got a small NetGear wireless router in
mid February and it worked great guns but we needed a bit more
WiFi power so I got another router which has a 600MW radio and
we do get better coverage but it starts to get a bit thin in one
room so I thought I could take the first router and turn it in
to an access point. It is a NETGEAR WNR1000v3.

It involved resetting to factory defaults, resetting the
WiFi to the same security settings as our main router but on
Channel 6 where the main router is on Channel 1.

I have turned off DHCP on the second router/AP but I
haven't found anything to completely turn off routing so it may
be still trying to route even though the WAN is not set to
anything right now.

When I first turn it on, things are well. After an hour
or two, my wife will report that her iPhone can't connect to
whichever random site she is trying right now. We will usually
also try somewhere else and have trouble with that when this is
happening so we know it is not the site.

I turn off the AP. She stops and restarts WiFi on her
phone and all is right with the world once again.

By the way, you do not ever use the WAN port on the AP.
Just plug a cable from the switch to one of the switch ports on
the AP and the AP starts relaying the traffic on the LAN to
WiFi.

Any ideas are appreciated.
