I copied the files just by using drug and drop in Nautilus. I did it this
way in both Ubuntu 10.04 and Debian Squeeze.

You are right. I've figured it out later that the time stamps for copied
files in Nautilus are actually UTC times for my location.
However all other files in Nautilus carry time stamps in local time. The
observed anomaly observed only while copying files from this particular
device and only in Sqeeze. As I already mentioned the same operation in
Ubuntu is completed just fine with the correct local time stamps.
And again both Squeeze and Ubuntu have this line "UTC=yes" in
/etc/default/rcS file.
To me it smells more like a weird bug in Nautilus in Sqeeze. Otherwise it
is too mysterious, since the operation is pretty straight forward.

Well, this is pretty much all.
