Dear followers of the -user mailing list,
you might be interesting in knowing that since yesterday there's a new
Debian experiment ongoing in the area of user support:
http://shapado.debian.net/
which is a multi-language question/answer website where participants can
ask questions, answer questions, and rank answers given by others. I'm
not a regular participant of this list, but the website might be a nice
complement for those who prefer (either temporarily or on a regular
basis) a web-based medium. More information have appeared on -project
[1] and Planet Debian [2].
Now that I think of it, there might even be room for some synergies
among this (and similar) list(s) and shapado.debian.net; for instance,
regulars of this list might consider having posted to this list new
questions appearing on the question RSS feed [3]. This is just the idea,
as the actual details of similar syncs are always a bit delicate ...
Keep in mind however that for the moment all this is just an experiment,
the success of it will depend on community participation. See you there?

More than welcome, I couldn=E2=80=99t find the exact motherboard on any of =
the
linux HCL's, but I did find another motherboard with the same Broadcom
AC131 lan chip, and they said it all worked (in 2007), and the sound is
hda-intel so no problem with it under ALSA.
Looking again, it seems the 6100 and nouveau don=E2=80=99t get on very well=
, it
might be fixed, but you can use the nv or nVidia binary
driver depending and it should work fine, and if your planning on
putting lenny on it, nouveau isnt an option anyway :P

Does the printer have installed the PostScript module? If yes, just
download the PPD file from Canon website and install a new printer from
CUPS (no need to install additional .deb packages).
If the printer is only PCL5e/PCL6 capable, then you can also try with a
generic PCL6 driver (i.e., "pxlcolor").
If you still want to debug the Canon driver, review your Cups log files.

I don't think you are going to get any penalty in performance by using a
kernel with HT enabled (in fact, that could have happened for some P4
featuring the "replay system" but I fairly doubt it is still live in Atom
based CPUs) :-?

Some tips:
- Review your wicd logs
- Check with another open AP
- Check that the AP broadcasts its SSID and review its settings
- Try with NetworkManager (if you do not want to install NM to avoid
messing up your current installation, load a LiveCD and test from there)
If none of the above works, there is a second driver you could test (it
requieres a bit more of work, though):

I'm running a fairly recent version of iceweasel from unstable. Just
upgraded a few days ago.
That's why I'm wondering if some other package (mozplugger) is
interfering.
It doesn't seem possible that I'm the only one having this problem.

Hey list
As many here are probably already aware, due to Oracle buying out Sun,
the OOo developer community has forked the project as a pre-emptive
protection against Oracle doing the same thing to OOo as they did to
OpenSolaris.
As LibO is still in beta mode, one either installs *.debs from the site
or aliens the *.rpm files. However, having downloaded and dpkg -i the
*.deb files there do seem to be some minor differences between my user
experience and that of those who aliened the *.rpm files.
My question is: any idea how long it might take for the LibO files to
find their way into the testing, etc. repositories and will the OOo
repositories be deprecated?
Any insight into this?

No, socket is different from ipp. Is there not usually a port
when you use a socket as connection?
I would encourage you to push on getting to lpd. Here is what we
use at work:
lpd://192.168.1.4/port1
You might have explicitly set the PPD after changing the
connection.

You should have the option "Open with → Other" that allows you to add any

Try run nmap against the printer to see which ports are
available:
nmap $ip
where $ip is the IP address of your printer. You will probably
need to install nmap first (`aptitude install nmap`). It will
tell if you there is any connectivity issues. lpd is port 515,
ipp is 631 etc (see /etc/services).

A good move imho.
I don't have any special info, but Debian being in a freeze, LibreOO won't be
entering testing or sid until after the release of Squeeze. Not sure if
experimental is used for stuff like this.
I could be wrong about this :-)
LibreOffice is using Go-oo builds to start, which is what Debian uses.
Rene Engelhard, Debian developer for our OO builds, is part of LibreOffice, looks
like the path forward, just takes time for Debians release schedule to work.

I think they are still in a very early beta stage (no language packages
which IMO, is a big handicap for an office suite and no ".deb" packages -
BTW, you said there were .deb files for donwload in upstream project,
where did you get them? :-?)

I bought a GeForce 6200. So far it's working well for me and solved the
bus overload problem I was having.
However I do have a couple of questions. I installed (with aptitude)
nvidia-kernel-2.6.32-5-686 which is supposed to give me the nVidea
driver binaries. X aborted because it could not find the nvidia module.
The 'nv' driver works fine.
'dpkg -L nvidia-kernel-2.6.32-5-686' shows what got installed was:
/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-686/nvidia/nvidia.ko
The 'nv' driver is in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nv_drv.so.
Does xorg need to be told about the different path? Is there some
command I need to run to tell the kernel about the nvidia driver?
What's the difference between '.ko' and '.so'?
As I said, things are working fine it's just that I'm curious as to why
the nvidia driver was not found.
