Have a look at tracker [1] it might be what you are after. I haven't
checked though if it is in active development.

I did a "aptitude install tracker-gui".

But when I run tracker-stats I get:

(tracker-stats:4313): Tracker-CRITICAL **: Could not connect to the D-Bus session bus, Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
Could not establish a D-Bus connection to Tracker
