rsync's --checksum option will check this out for you. Expect this run
to take a rather long time, as each bit of data and backup will be read
out. After a clean run you will know that all files are identical (and
fully readable).

I recommend to run this occasionally on backups in order to verify that
there is no silent corruption of data.
