As you can see, nothing gets installed by your command.

Apt is running "dpkg --pending --configure", so I suppose gij-4.3 is one
of those packages that were not fully installed. This is unrelated to
build-essential, however.
You can see why gij-4.3 got installed by typing "aptitude why gij-4.3".
