You sound as if it is too much work. Isn't it all a matter of:
$> sudo aptitude update
$> sudo aptitude install gpm
$> sudo ls /etc/init.d/gpm start
and you have the mouse and copy/paste in consoles?
Or am I missing something and there is more to it than the above simple
steps?
