well, the good news is,since I have gtk2 installed ( from my testing sources) 
even though I am back running Etch, I was able to install claws-mail 3.1.1 . 
I haven't used sylpheed/claws since back in windowz Pegasus days..
maybe I need to retry my Lenny setup, see if my NVIDIA card will work..
