So you are mixing the packages from your Sarge CD's with packages from
backports.org?

What is the output of:
cat /etc/apt/sources.list
> 0 upgraded, 6 newly installed, 0 to remove and 257 not
If you have any problems, it is normally a good idea to bring your
system up to date, unless of course that is your problem :-). Sometimes
that may fix it, but more than that, it is usually easier to debug from
a known state.

Is there any special reason why you are still running Sarge?
[Yeah, I know its shame to waste 14 CDs :-)]
