Thanks for the reply.
The reason I can't do key bindings is because the users (parents) will not remember them.
However, I solved the issue by installing the ROX file manage. And may I say a beautiful application. Then I simply create a simpling to ~/apps for the apps that I need and right click on it to and choose "Set Icon..."
Couldn't be easier...
