Strange, that: I use a Logitech cordless optical mouse with Debian
Lenny. No problems whatever.

I find that optical mice seem to work best on non-reflective surfaces,
odd as that may seem. So, no plastic covered mouse mats with footie
team badges on, for me. Just plain cloth covered ones seem to work
best.
