I had tried it once when I had newly installed Etch. But it didn't
seem to work with my radeonfb driver. I tried with the generic vga16fb
and I got the shutdown bootsplash image fine but never got the start
boot.

I read on bootsplash.org there's a kernel panic error on Debain Etch
using bootsplash

http://www.bootsplash.orgFAQ#Why_do_I_see_a_kernel_panic_on_my_.28Debian.29_system.3F

I don't know if this has been solved yet or not. Seems debian people
don't use bootsplash since they are geeks mostly so they like the
messages scroll by ;-)
