Two suggestions:
1. Get Java directly from java.com! It is newer than the one packaged
in Etch. (Version 5 Update 6 vs. Version 6 Update 2)
2. Try Opera. It's quite simple to install the Java plugin for it, you
simply have to specify the path to your Java installation.
