I haven't done it but myself, but it seems shorewall can (using 
iptables?).

Theoretically

A firewall is like a home alarm system. It will alert you of forced 
entry attempts. But if the thief disguises himself as the cable guy and 
you invite him in, your alarm system can't do anything about that.  
(Note: Windows personal firewalls usually do incorporate virus scanning, 
but linux itself does not need an antivirus.)
