   Yup, it was still installed. I was about to re-install, I even went
to the Debian package site downloaded it and it's common files, when
out of the blue, dhcp started running again by itself! Weird.

Bottom line, keep KDE off your machine :). Seriously, I still don't
understand why removing kde-desktop pulled off avahi-daemon. I went
back into the Aptitude log, and confirmed it was one of the packages  it
removed. Well Etch is back to normal for now. Thanks for the reply.
