Im having troubles under alsa.. therefor everything that uses it (arts
or /dev/dsp emulation) also inherits it... Anyway, it doesn't matter
much now, as i bought Audigy and 5.1 speakers.. now playing with
asoundrc...

mhhh, it sounds very strange, alsa can deal properly with plenty of audio cards.

if you use alsa you don't need artsd nor use another sound server.
alsa is enough and from the alsa web site that's what they say

"Neither the .asoundrc nor the asound.conf files are required for ALSA to work properly. Most applications will work without them. They are used to allow extra functionality, such as routing and sample-rate conversion, through the alsa-lib layer. "

However alsa kernel modules provide dsp and oss emulation ("oss emulation", in kernel config) for audio applications which ask for them and debian stock kernel provide this modules.
