Hello, I also have this problem :-) Some applications seem unable to 
convert hostnames to IP addresses. For me, ssh, icedove, reportbug and 
dselect. nslookup still works to obtain IP addresses. As a workaround, I 
have inserted my mail servers, and the debian servers IP addresses in 
/etc/hosts. I tried to downgrade to libc6_2.3.6.ds1-8, but the problem 
persisted.
