Errors while playing video-DVD

ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]

Hello,

while playing commercial videos the software crashes

kaffeine: sigsev
no debugging symbols found)
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1"

mplayer:
too many video packets in buffer

Is it possibly 
a software bug in the libs or 
miscalibrated software or 
insufficient graphics-memory?

Is there a way to read out the size of the memory of the video-card?
I tried to with hwinfo, but did not find any hints.
