Pft. The demand of Gnome on the new user isn't helpful. I mean there are
two big strikes against Gnome when it comes to a sensible default. Sure, the
developers might love it's clean code but how many Gnome apps are there versus
"just-GTK" apps? Secondly Gnome finally got it right with separate windows
for separate directories and what did all the Gnome 'leetists do? Complain
that it was horrid. Horrid to have a simple drag-and-drop copy EASY to do?
*sigh* Vatever.
I contended back when Gnome was started that it was built for the wrong
reasons and that shows to this day. KDE set out to make a great desktop.
Time and again they nail it. Gnome set out to kill KDE because it used QT and
failed in that and in making a workable desktop.
