Earlier today I plugged in my shiny new wireless card (PCI, rt2500). I
used module-assistant to build the kernel module, no problems. Then I
run `iwconfig`:
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 RT2500 Wireless ESSID:""
Mode:Managed Frequency=2.437 GHz Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power=-1
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=-120 dBm Noise level:-200
dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
eth1 no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.
And this is where the problem starts. The ESSID isn't picked up. It does
show up on my wife's Windows machine. I set the ESSID manually then:
# iwconfig eth0 essid 'TheGalaxy'
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 RT2500 Wireless ESSID:"TheGalaxy"
Mode:Managed Frequency=2.437 GHz Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power=-1
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=-120 dBm Noise level:-200
dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
eth1 no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.
Then I try to scan for "stuff":
# iwlist eth0 scan
eth0 Failed to read scan data : Resource temporarily unavailable
What does that mean? And what can I do to fix it?
(I've disabled all security (no WEP, no WPA) on the wireless router for
the moment. I thought I'd turn that on once I have managed to get the
wireless connection to work without security.)

Software is not manufactured, it is something you write and publish.
Keep Europe free from software patents, we do not want censorship
by patent law on written works.
