Re: Acer Aspire 3003: don't show shell after X11 exit

I assume that you have set up your system such that it boots to a
console (shell), then you log in and start XFree86 manually with
"startx" or "xinit". Is that correct?

Yes. #startx.

While X is running you should be able to switch to one of the six
consoles by pressing CTRL + ALT + Fx, ... Does this work?

No. I tried. The terminals remains off (black).

Try to log out from X again and when you hang at the black screen press
CTRL + ALT + F1. This should return you to the console from which you
started X. Do you see any error messages? Is the console busy or do you
have a prompt ($ sign + blinking cursor)?

Don't work. All black...

If necessary, go to the CTRL + ALT + F2 console,

black...

log in and check the
contents of the file .xsession-errors in your user's home directory.
What are the last messages in that file?

Don't have relevant errors.

Furthermore, run the command

egrep "^\((EE|WW)\)" /var/log/XFree86.0.log

No errors.

Thanks!
