That looks like you have a problem with video mode switching. You can test this by starting X, going to the CTRL + ALT + F2 console and trying to cause a reboot. Of course, since your screen is black you have to log in as root and issue the "reboot" command without seeing what you type. If your system does reboot after that you know that everything works fine except for the display. In that case it is probably best if you start a new thread with a subject like "video mode switching problem with XXX", where XXX is the name of your graphics card. That is more likely to attract the attention of someone with specific knowledge about your graphics hardware. You should also include the relevant part of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. (The section which has the name of your video card in it.) If you do not know the exact name of your graphics card look at the output of "lspci" and find the line which says "VGA compatible controller" or something similar. Regards, Florian
