If you are on a private network, you can use rsync over rsh from your
laptop to the backup server.  If you're doing it over a public
network, then use rsync over ssh.  If you use ssh, you'll probably
want passwordless public keys.

The other thing to do is look at a more sophisticated backup solution
like Bacula.
