These snmp errors you are getting look like there is no "public"
snmp community, so you're being denied access by snmpd when you're
trying to make your mrtg config.


Can you try doing this as a test:

snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 127.0.0.1 


and see if you get a timeout error or some output.


If you get output, then snmpd is configured properly and you need to
look at the arguements you're giving MRTG's cfgmaker. If youget a
timeout error, you need to take a look at your snmpd.conf
