apt-get install module-assistant ; m-a a-i nvidia
That command line should do the trick (as root that is)

Okay, are you talking for your *X* environment or CLI or both?

Pretty much. If we get your explanation a bit better for the #2 problem,
we should be able to help.

Everything I have ever touched that was/is Coldfusion... was
exceptionally VERSION Dependant on many things. Coldfusion I had about 5
years ago... would only work on <1.3.19. Since 1.3.19 had some really
seriously big (the size of Ohio) problems... especially with Coldfusion
(amplifing the problems, due to multiple vectors of useage and things
being done to get more access in multiple pathways) the machine was
continually getting smacked down.
I was being forced to run this version, because it was a Mandate (or
Womandate for that matter) from Gawd that we were going to run
Coldfusion. So, I had to make a remote filesystem that apache and
coldfusion ran from as read-only and chrooted as well.
Once there were no problems for a long time, they wanted to change it so
they didn't have to submit the changes and files to a queue system I
made for ease of maintenance for them and me. They wanted straight FTP.
So back to a R/W filesystem, I resigned over this decision (there were
many other things too) but, I wanted nothing on my hands after I changed
it.
Within 2 days, it was owned and since they had it on the private side of
the firewall (not the DMZ) with *ALL* traffic being forwarded (yes this
was another 2 issues) It became a lauch point to infiltrate the rest of
the Datacenter. The people there, didn't discover it for 3 months.
You can draw your own conclusions.
So, in summary, make sure you are doing the right thing and minimizng
your exposure. Coldfusion works fine, I have had MX working on Sarge as
recent as 2 months ago. Since nothing really significant has changed...
it should be okay. I did have some issues that were resolvable. But, I
am not you and it is not my machine, so YMMV.
