I've seen this message before when I've connected USB devices that aren't supported in Linux. Maybe your camera can't be mounted directly, but only accessed through e.g. gphoto2/digikam. Another option would be gphoto-fuse-fs -- see http://fuse.sourceforge.net/filesystems.html.
