Re: How to make the terminal buffer bigger?

Hi Daniel,

I just found your email reply to me by chance on google, because I did
not get any reply to my post on the list. I have discovered this is
because the list configuration is presently set in a different way to
convention
on the internet [1] -- but anyway thank you for you reply.

Not a solution to your problem, but editing /etc/defaults/bootlogd will make a /var/log/boot at startup, and will write all the infos there. Then after you log in, you can examine that log file.

How can I configure this file? /etc/defaults/bootlogd is missing on my
sarge install.

Do I have to manually set the run-level symlinks? Or is there some standard
way of turning it on? I seem to have the /sbin/bootlogd daemon

Unfortunately, I do not know how to make that buffer bigger, but I'm courious too!

Some one replied to me off list pointing out dmesg -s <buffer-size>

I revised my /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh to contain "dmesg -s 1048576"

Then when I reboot I can do dmesg -s 1048576 >log.txt

However, that is still only the kernel boot-up messages, and not any of
the run-level daemons starting etc.

I am not on this list, so please include my email addresses in any replies.

Kind regards
JG
