Dial up connection under Debian (and chrony)

Dear friends,
when traveling I have a GPRS/EDGE card that I use to dial-up a ppp connection (writing from this now).

They way I have setup is that I just type:

sudo wvdial

and the connections takes place.

Now I have tried installing the chrony package in hope of synching the correct daylight savings time here in Italy (DST or CET+1) but am not getting the clock updated.

I tried reading through the doc and it says something about being ppp aware but could not quite figure out if I am starting the ppp connection in a proper way.

BTW I am a bit confused since in chrony.conf the offline parameter if I understand is to lookup time only when ppp connected. If this is true how do I change the file when I am at home (ADSL) or in the office (LAN) and therefore always connected ???

TIA,
Bob
