moving to 2.6

hi folks,

about 9 months ago I tried witching my systems to kernel 2.6, but had
various problems and went back to 2.4 on almost all of them.  Now I'm
ready to try again.  Among other things, I'm eager to try out udev, in
order to simplify the hell that my proliferating firewire and usb
devices are creating for me (at present I don't even use devfs).  

so I'm wondering:  is there now an up-to-date, fairly comprehensive
guide to the upgrade process from within Debian?  

Any help much appreciated.
