It's a program. You can add it to you Lilo conf. or to grub
and then boot with it. You can also boot from you floppy.

I've found and successfully run memtest86. There were no errors
found. I think the cause of the problem in the first place may have
been an unclean shutdown. Any more ideas?

I just went to compile grep and gzip from source.... turns out
configure uses grep :( Is it possible to extract the binary version of
these files directly from the deb file?
