Probably you have set "Display content in resizing windows" in KDE Control 
Center "Windows Behavior". Just unset it and xpdf will be blazing fast, or at 
least much faster. Of course YMMV.

Actually I prefer xpdf to Acrobat 5. Anyway I'll try Acrobat 7.
