css, copying, compressing. legality thereof
Hi folks,
I've been reading various unmaintained sites on the web and am a little
confused about (a) the legality, and (b) the possibility of copying
and compressing DVDcss filesystems. so, first off, anyone out there
know an uptodate site with clear information on this issue? And more
specifically, anyone know whether and where the following plan is
possible and/or legal?
We're going on a long trip this summer. I'd like to bring along an
old laptop in the car as a sort of mobile tv for the kids; but I don't
want to bring all the original DVD's, as the kids are likely to wreck
them up in the car. So I'd rather take our dvd's, copy them onto the
laptap harddrive, and then compress them using some format or other to
reduce the amount of space they take up on the drive. And if possible
I'd like to keep the DVD's filesystem intact, since some of these DVD's
have extra features that the kids enjoy.
so what do you think? is this possible?
