font encoding in emacs menus

Hello, 

I tried 

 (set-face-font 'menu "-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-2")

in my .emacs file. That changes the font, but still uses iso8859-1
encoding as if emacs was changing the font name to it's own idea of
what is right. How can I get iso8859-2 in menus?
