You are conflating two questions.

1a. Should you build the ALSA drivers integrally or as modules?
1b. Should you build the ALSA drivers from the Linux source tree or from
the alsa-driver source tree?

Answers:

1a. Building them as modules gives you more flexibility. E.g., you can
replace them without rebooting.
1b. The alsa-driver source tree is usually more up to date that the Linux
source tree and so his usually to be preferred.

You don't need to build any OSS drivers.

However, you might want to build ALSA's OSS-compatibility drivers.

Install the alsa-base package (version 1.0.8-4) and the packages on which
it Depends.

The alsa-oss package allows you to run applications that work with OSS
drivers on a system that only has ALSA drivers and no ALSA
OSS-compatibility drivers. See the long description of the alsa-oss
1.0.8-1 package for a slightly longer explanation.
