RE: New Kernel lose sound

I have encountered the same problems whenever I recompile my kernel I loose
the sound (alsa drivers) functionality, also I would lose my modem drivers
(eagle drivers) functionality.
Personally I have never been able to get the apt-get install alsa-utils to
work.

My solution to both these problems was :

For the eagles drivers get the latest version from their site and run the
install script which seems to work just fine on debian sarge.

For the alsa drivers, I went and got the latest sources as well from their
site, compiled and installed them manually.
Now for some reason without a reboot modprobe would not work even with a
correctly configured modules.conf. Upon reboot all should be fine (or was
for me any ways), your levels will be defaulted back to zero you will need
to set them up again.

Cheers,

Tim
