Other folks have recommended HTML editors; I'm not going to (I use jed, a
pretty cool text editor with syntax highlighting features, but in no way a
dedicated HTML editor), but I will recommend installing the tidy package.
Especially for newbies (which you are if you haven't done it in years),
tidy is an incredibly handy utility for cleaning up your HTML.

(I mostly use it for cleaning up the output of things like pod2html, and
also for converting from HTML 4 to XHTML.)

tidy's also real small.
