Oh, I wish that I knew it before. I was having the same problem as you --
my mouse had been working fine without any problem for the past few week
until a reboot due to power failure. I suspected many things... and
finally ended up reinstalling my Debian.
Now I'm still configuring my newly installed Debian. :-)
