do NOT use hda and hdb .. it is pointless ...
	- if hda dies, on some dumb mb, hdb is also gone

use 1 disk per ide cable for raid'ing ...

and for "any ideas", your kernel doesn't support raid

what is the output of:
	uname -a

what is the contents of:
lilo.conf or menu.lst if using grub
	raidtab or raid.conf or ??
