Shouldn't that be the other way round?  Although I think I remember the
British billion being brought in line with the American billion a few
years ago, or it could be that I've got it back to front.

To check:
billion(US) = 1,000,000,000 (one thousand million)
billion(ex-GB) = 1,000,000,000,000 (one million million)
